Wells Fargo Center Becomes One of the First NHL and NBA Arenas to Feature LED Lighting System

PHILADELPHIA–When the Philadelphia Flyers take the ice against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, October 9, it will be under an innovative new LED lighting system, making the Wells Fargo Center one of the first NHL and NBA arenas to feature the state-of-the-art lights.

The new system is the result of a partnership between arena owner Comcast-Spectacor and Musco Lighting, the global innovator in sports lighting solutions, and will deliver an unparalleled arena experience for fans and improve energy efficiency.”We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the fan experience and conserve energy,” said Matt Homan, General Manager of the Wells Fargo Center. “We will reduce energy consumption by 66 percent compared to the prior system, and at the same time create an aesthetically pleasing experience for fans to view sporting events in the arena and from home.”

Since the Wells Fargo Center serves as home to both the NHL’s Flyers and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the new lighting system provides a truly customized lighting solution, meeting the needs of players, spectators, and fans watching around the world. Musco’s advanced luminaires feature custom reflectors to precisely aim the light coming from more than 25,000 LEDs —drastically reducing glare, enhancing playability for the athletes, and offering the highest quality light for HD broadcasts.

The system’s instant on/off/dimming capabilities allow for dynamic new special effects for things like player introductions and halftime entertainment, while saving additional energy and improving lighting efficiency. And the long life of the LED light source, as well as Musco’s industry leading long-term warranty, eliminates maintenance for arena staff.

“The innovative lighting solution at the Wells Fargo Center is an example of Musco’s expertise and superior ability to control glare,” said Jeff Rogers, Musco’s Vice President of Developmental Sales. “The new system produces a theater-like atmosphere for players and spectators, while significantly reducing energy consumption.”
